Gas Applications in the Construction Industry |
Industrial gases are even used in the construction industry. There are two main applications for cryogenic gases:
- Ground freezing
- Cooling concrete
Ground freezing with liquid nitrogen is very popular throughout the rest of world, and is slowly gaining acceptance in the United States as a viable way to stabilize soft soil for excavation. Linde is the world leader with this technology and has had perfect success freezing countless job sites for very large horizontal tunnel applications, which are notoriously the most difficult type due to cave-ins.
Concrete cooling with liquid nitrogen is used in applications that require the concrete to have high tensile strength, such as a power plant or some bridge work.
